QES Special News 2017-18

Comic project among best in north west!

A QES project created for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival has been nominated for a prestigious prize at the North West Cultural Education Awards.

The Traces of the Great War project involved students in Year 8 and 9 creating comic strips about war and conflict.

Led by our Library team, the project was a collaborative effort involving teachers in Art, French and Religion, Philosophy and Ethics.

At the North West Cultural Education Awards, the project is a finalist in the category for Heritage, Museum, Library and Education Partnership Award.

QES Librarian Miss Sosnowsky wanted to give special praise to all the pupils involved, as well as Mrs Harrinton, Miss Stephens and Mrs Teggart.

The project actually dates back to autumn 2016, when the Comic Art Festival approached QES with the idea to complement the Arts Council 14-18 NOW WWI Centenary Arts Commissions.

The students' work was exhibited publically in Café Nero in Kendal as part of the fetival's Window’s Trail in October, and around the same time in school and in Kirkby Lonsdale Public Library.
