Remembering The Past
QES will mark the centenary of World War 1 with a special ceremony to remember past pupils who lost their lives in the trenches.
We already have a circle of benches around the cricket pitch, each of which dates back to the 1950s and commemorates former pupils who died in the Second World War.
So on Remembrance Day we're going to dedicate a new set benches, each of which has plaques to remember our past students and staff who died in the Great War.
Our benches date back to Victorian times, when this lost generation were born, and the benches will be placed in the Springfield House garden, a location that also dates back to Victorian times and would have been a familiar feature of their school days.
Our ceremony on 11 November will be attended by a selection of students, made-up of the 11th person on each register.
Currently, all students are attending a special series of assemblies organised by our History Department, where sixth formers share the personal stories of our past pupils from both World Wars before The Ode of Remembrance is read and the Last Post is played.
