Dear Parents

A fellow parent brought to our attention a new app that could potentially be misused by young people, which we thought would be useful to share with you.

It is called Sarahah – an Arabic word which means “honesty” or “candour” and looks like this:

The app is free and is designed to let users ‘send and receive honest feedback and learn what others think of them’. Unlike other social media networks there is no interaction between users, so it enables people to send anonymous and unmoderated comments to each other. It is rated as ‘Teen’, though does state that users must be over 17 to use it.

It is of course completely at your discretion whether your child uses the Sarahah app or not but it is not necessarily an app that we recommend; it is the anonymity that causes us concern and the potential that it could be used to send unkind comments, possibly sexual content and of course could very well contribute to cyberbullying.

Please feel free to contact us if you are worried about this app or others that your child has been using.

Warm regards
