Comics Club & The Stan Lee Excelsior Award

Comics Club & The Stan Lee Excelsior Award

Comics Club is based around The Stan Lee Excelsior Award; the only nationwide book award for graphic novels and manga - where kids aged 11-16 decide the winner by rating each book as they read it.

Eight graphic novels are selected for a shortlist and club members are given roughly eight weeks, starting in February, to read and rate them all. The Award culminates in a ceremony in Sheffield, where the winner is announced and pupils get to meet comics creators, shop for comics merchandise and meet other like-minded comics fans.

We also run a Top Trumps Tournament using comics related card packs, in which club members use their knowledge of comics characters to battle it out for a hefty goody bag of prizes!

When we're not following the Excelsior Award, or battling it out in Top Trumps, we meet to discuss anything comics related, including the latest comic too film adaptions, book releases, plot twists and industry news. We also enjoy following updates from and looking forward to a trip to The Lakes International Comic Art Festival in Kendal, held in October.

All years are welcome, please join us every Friday break in the main Library Reading room.
